Switch to pinstripes a good move for Canadian catcher Russell Martin
TORONTO - New York Yankees catcher Russell Martin jogs into the locker-live before batting practice and sits down to log on to a computer beside the players' dressing area.
Little does he know his smiling kisser is appearing at the same time on a nearby television, where a pre-recorded interview is being broadcast on a Canadian sports instal. A few teammates look up at the screen and teammate David Robertson can't resist chiming in with a friendly jab about Martin's new moustache.
"He looks like Policeman Martin," Robertson says with a laugh.
Martin turns around in his chair and smiles when he sees himself on the tube, joining in on the fun by suggesting his facial extension could use a little more colour.
"That moustache definitely needs some Just For Men," he said.
In a clubhouse full of colourful personalities, Martin offers a adequate, guy-next-door presence. The Canadian is enjoying his first season with New York after spending his first five years in the major leagues with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
