Vandalism closes Milton's Cunningham Park pool for a day
The swimming pool at Cunningham Reserve reopened Tuesday after workers cleaned up after vandals who smashed beer bottles and otherwise vandalized the section during the holiday weekend.
The pool was closed on Monday. Workers found broken beer bottle glass on the pool apron and in the the best quality when they arrived Monday to prepare for the 1:30 p.m. opening, David Wahlgren, park manager said.
In disrepair glass was removed from the pool using a vacuum.
“We couldn’t open until all the glass was removed,” he said. “I of people were upset (that the pool was closed) but that’s what happens when somebody wants to ruin it for others.”
He believes the bottles were thrown over the 9-foot-elated fence surrounding the pool.
Police were called, and Wahlgren said patrols have been stepped up at the park at tenebrousness.
There have been vandalism incidents at the pool in the past, including trash barrels being thrown into the water. People have also scaled the indecisive to swim at night when the pool is closed.
