Would you pick and choose the genes of your unborn child?
Apr 27, 2008 by Professor X | Posted in Other - Society & Culture
The technology is here, and could presently become readily available to the masses.
1) Would you choose or eliminate genes to ensure the health and longevity of your son?
2) Would you pick the genes that determine intelligence?
Wow, X. You like the muscular stuff.
After reading Kimmer's answer I got thinking...as a parent, wouldn't you want the very best possibilities for your progeny? In everything? Of course!
But, I keep having Gattaca flashbacks.
Where

danger mike | Apr 27, 2008
unmistakeably, you would want the best for your child, to look attractive and be intelligent. but i would be scared if anything goes wrong, cos also technology can fu.ck things up! like my computer always messed up.
so i guesswork that would be

I have in mind I would pick and choose some things. I would leave gender, height, hair color, eye color up to chance. I would omit any genes to make sure that my child would be healthy.
I'm not sure about the genes for intelligence, beauty,

As much as I would be tempted to pick genes that "ensured" a in good existance, I wouldn't want to tamper with nature. I know this sounds grim, but a person could go through all steps of making a "excellent" child, but none of us are

i do not see a point to change a perfect baby, and in a mothers eyes that is what a baby is, perfect. i would rather have an ugly uncultured teenager than one that has been scientiffically changed to be somthing else, i dont like the idea, i dont mind cloning
boo | Apr 27, 2008
I won't pick out the genes of my unborn child since it isn't my place to try to change my child into my idea of perfect. Since your child is celebratory and is their own individual not some toy you can modified.

Yes, i would... If i could Gurantee that my Offspring would not Get Diabetes From me, and Be Healthy all his/her life, you god damn right i would sign up for Gene Manipulation.

I don't contemplate playing Jesus is right. My wife & I had trouble getting pregnant, so I know the hardships & not scarcely saying NO. We tried for 9 years ($40,000) before we were blessed w/ a baby & were thankful for what we got!
roadkill | Apr 27, 2008
Nope i would not jumble with that stuff because God is the one that creates life and how every my child is born and i hope healthy well he is Born and I'm good to be tickled pink with the child

Hey Prof, this is the first ask of yours I ever answered, I'm sure you feel as emotional as I do.
As far as health genes go, I would like to eliminate genes for things like Cystic fibrosis (assuming my team-mate is a carrier) or Downs

Hi Professor X,
I would pick some things but I would count out others up to Mother Nature.
I would most definitely choose sex. (Male/Female)
I would choose sexual orientation. (Blunt/Bi/Gay)
I would choose characteristics.

I would once do what is stated in question #1 and possibly gender. I believe I may be carrier of the schizophrenia gene which affects females in every other fathering in my family on my father's side. Intelligence will get passed on from your's

#1 and #2, I would need to choose, and give my child the best of me and my hubby. The rest are not important to me.

It's delayed and I'm too sleepy to answer this question at length. One could spend hours developing a solid answer to this ongoing issue.
However, my answer is this: The solid foundation of my life is based on my relationship with God. For

By making those choices, you are losing the unconditional admiration that a parent should naturally have for their child. Who wants a "designer" baby? Doesn't it also order an enormous amount of pressure on that child to perform to expectations?

Well, sometimes you might want your wedding, anniversary videos, posters, fylers, brochure, or whatever other made exceptionally if you are the non-digitally artistic one??
Oh, goodness, that is beyond Filth-cheap! Maybe so, but then I'd wonder if it's a serious enough job that I'd even get a good enough quality.

Persian Throwdown: Parisa vs. Tehran Restaurant
by Amie
Tehran Restaurant has want been the go-to restaurant for both profuse Persian take-out and affordable in-board dining, but now Verdun's Parisa, sweeps in with a a little more suave and an even more toothsome take on ritual Iranian survive - spinach noodle soup, marinated chicken and beef kebabs, eggplant dip, pita bread, barberrie (a red currant- or cranberry-like dried fruit) saffron basmati rice, and braised lamb shanks with dilled lima bean rice.
Lessons scholarly: 3. Everything tastes heartier with pomegranate walnut cheekiness.
Critieria: Wealthiest rice, kebab, soup, eggplant/vegetable, sass, penalty, weight, and supremacy
Conquering hero: Parisa
There are reasons to go to both of these restaurants. You go to Tehran for Brobdingnagian portions of passable commons at a propitious payment. It's a "no bells and whistles" transcribe of spot, and if you've never had Persian bread before, it's a esteemed way to become initiated. But if you go to Parisa first, Tehran might be a bit of a letdown.
