Larry Wilson: You'll never guess who's prospering in hard times Pasadena Star-News
On returning from my annual kith and kin reunion in Texas last summer, I wrote about picking up the edition of The Economist in the Amarillo airport touting the many pecuniary successes of the Lone Star State in contrast to our beloved California.
Some of you saw the mag, with its cartoon cover of a burly cowboy running into the water with a Jet Ski while our own Guv Arnold pulled himself from the drink holding a shattered surfboard.
The Economist leans toward, well, the conservatism as an indicator of most everything. Money - having it or not - is indeed an indicator of many things. It's not everything, though, as happy, healthy folks living on penury's edge in Hanalei would tell you, with a grin.
Last week I saw on business writer Mark Lacter's blog on Kevin Roderick's LA Observed location a link to The Milken Institute's Best-Performing Cities 2009 - Where America's Jobs are Created and Unceasing.
Unless you got it from Uncle Schmidlap, a good job's gonna be where you get your money.
